Welcome to SEIU Local 49, from President Meg Niemi
On behalf of our entire membership, I would like to welcome you to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 49. As a member of SEIU 49, you are part of a vibrant and democratic organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of working families. We are over 15,000 healthcare workers, janitors, and security officers in Oregon and Southwest Washington who are coming together to win livable wages, affordable healthcare benefits, and job security, and to create a more just society.
We are stronger together, and I encourage you to be an active member of our union. You will have the opportunity to help enforce your contract in your worksite, organize new members into our union, and advocate at our State Capitols to pass laws that help working families.
Here are a few ways you can get involved:
Fill out your membership application.
If you haven’t already, please fill out a membership application here so you can receive all the benefits of being a union member.
Stay informed!
Text “seiu49” to 787753 to get urgent text alerts, or sign up for email alerts here. We are active on social media, too! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Join the conversation.
We have several closed Facebook groups for our members to talk with one another and their stewards and organizers about what’s happening at work. (You must be part of one of these worksites to join a specific group.)

Know your contract!
Your union contract is the result of collective bargaining between your co-workers and management and contains everything you need to know about your rights and benefits on the job. Most contracts are available here. If you don’t see yours, reach out to our Member Resource Center.
BLACK LIVES MATTER.
SEIU Local 49 is committed to being an anti-racist organization. Resources and information about this movement can be found here.
Again, welcome, and I’m looking forward to working with you!
In solidarity,
Meg Niemi, President SEIU Local 49
